Yes, you will need a valid passport to travel to Greenland. Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, so the visa requirements can be somewhat unique. Here are the specifics:

  • Passport: A valid passport is required for all international travelers entering Greenland. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date.
  • Visa Requirements: Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality. Greenland is not part of the Schengen Area, but the visa requirements are similar to those for entering Denmark.
  • Citizens of EU/EEA Countries: Citizens of EU/EEA countries do not need a visa to enter Greenland for stays up to 90 days.
  • Citizens of Visa-Exempt Countries: Citizens of countries that have a visa-free arrangement with Denmark (such as the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan) do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days.
  • Other Nationalities: Citizens of countries not listed as visa-exempt will need to obtain a visa to enter Greenland. The application should be made through a Danish embassy or consulate.
